The coastal airport of Bourgas serves nearly 28 000 passengers per day. with 169 aircraft travelling to and from more than 20 different destinations every day, Bulgarian news agency BTA reported. On July 18 2007, between 8pm and 12pm alone, 33 aircraft were accommodated and most of the passengers are travelling between the UK, Sweden and Germany.
Between mid-July and the end of August is the peak time expected for passengers and is the busiest time for the airport, BTA said.
On June 29, the airport officially opened its new departure terminal. The project was part of the investment programme of concessionaire Fraport Twin Star Airport Management.
